EngWord Privacy Policy

EngWord is a vocabulary app published by AppFellas. This policy explains what the app collects and what it does not.

What stays on your device

Everything you do in EngWord is stored only on your phone:

• the words you have studied, and their review schedule
• your streak, XP, level and badges
• your language, level, daily goal and other settings

There is no EngWord account, no EngWord server, and no sync. We cannot see your progress, and we never receive it. Deleting the app deletes this data. You can also erase it at any time from Settings → Reset all progress.

Advertising

EngWord is free and paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdMob. To show ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect:

• your device's advertising identifier
• approximate (non-precise) location derived from your IP address
• device information such as model, operating system version and language
• information about ads you were shown and interacted with

Google uses this to serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud. Google's handling of this data is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Your choices

• In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, EngWord shows a Google-certified consent form on first launch. You can reopen it at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices and change or withdraw your consent.
• On iOS, EngWord asks for App Tracking Transparency permission. If you decline, ads become non-personalised. The app works exactly the same either way.
• On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.

Declining personalised ads never limits any feature of EngWord.

Notifications

Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device. EngWord does not use push notifications, so no device token is created or sent anywhere. Reminders can be turned off in Settings → Daily reminder or in your system settings.

Text-to-speech

Word pronunciation uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. On some devices this engine is provided by the operating system vendor and may process the word being spoken according to that vendor's own privacy policy.

Children

EngWord is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Word data

EngWord's dictionary content is built from publicly available sources: English Wiktionary via the kaikki.org extraction (CC BY-SA 3.0) for definitions, pronunciation and translations, and Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR) for translated example sentences. Interface typefaces are Bricolage Grotesque and Manrope, both SIL Open Font License. No user data is involved in producing any of it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address and the date above will change.
