EngWord teaches 2,997 English words in the order they actually turn up in everyday English, with meanings in 18 languages. There is no account and no sign-up — everything you do stays on your phone.

Common questions

How do I change the language meanings are shown in?

Settings → Meaning language. All 18 are available at any time, and switching does not lose your progress.

Why did a word come back so soon?

EngWord schedules each word just before you would have forgotten it. A word you answered wrong comes round sooner; one you know drifts further apart. Daily reviews are capped so a missed day never leaves a mountain waiting.

I changed phone. Can I move my progress?

Not currently. There is no account and no server, which is also why nobody — including us — can see what you have studied.

How do I turn off personalised ads?

Settings → Ad privacy choices, where available in your region. On iOS you can also revoke tracking permission in the system Settings app. The app works exactly the same either way.

How do I start over?

Settings → Reset all progress. It cannot be undone.
